A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Lepton CMS 2.2.2 (Content Management System). Affected is an unknown function of the file /LEPTON_stable_2.2.2/upload/admins/admintools/tool.php of the component Droplet Permission Manager. The manipulation of the argument Add_droplets with the input value 2' WHERE attribute='Add_droplets' or extractvalue(1,version())%23&Delete_droplets%5B%5D=1&Export_droplets%5B%5D=1&Import_droplets%5B%5D=1&Manage_backups%5B%5D=1&Manage_perms%5B%5D=1&Modify_droplets%5B%5D=1 leads to a sql injection vulnerability (Blind). CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The weakness was disclosed 11/17/2016 by Tim Coen with Curesec Research Team as Lepton 2.2.2: SQL Injection as confirmed mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is available at seclists.org. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The successful exploitation requires a authentication. Technical details and a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1505 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
A public exploit has been developed by Tim Coen in HTTP POST Request and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at seclists.org. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 169 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:LEPTON_stable_2.2.2/upload/admins/admintools/tool.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Upgrading to version 2.3.0 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at lepton-cms.org. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
