Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in BlueZ 5.42. This vulnerability affects the function commands_dump of the file tools/parser/csr.c of the component Dump File Handler. The manipulation of the argument frm->ptr with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In BlueZ 5.42, a buffer overflow was observed in "commands_dump" function in "tools/parser/csr.c" source file. The issue exists because "commands" array is overflowed by supplied parameter due to lack of boundary checks on size of the buffer from frame "frm->ptr" parameter. This issue can be triggered by processing a corrupted dump file and will result in hcidump crash.
