Use-after-free vulnerability in the vmxnet3_io_bar0_write function in hw/net/vmxnet3.c in QEMU (aka Quick Emulator) allows local guest OS administrators to cause a denial of service (QEMU instance crash) by leveraging failure to check if the device is active.

The bug was discovered 12/09/2016. The weakness was presented 12/10/2016 by Li Qiang with Qihoo 360 (Website). The advisory is available at git.qemu.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-6833 since 08/17/2016. Local access is required to approach this attack. A simple authentication is required for exploitation.
