Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in QEMU (Virtualization Software) (the affected version unknown). This vulnerability affects the function mptsas_config_manufacturing_1/mptsas_config_ioc_0 of the file hw/scsi/mptconfig.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
The (1) mptsas_config_manufacturing_1 and (2) mptsas_config_ioc_0 functions in hw/scsi/mptconfig.c in QEMU (aka Quick Emulator) allow local guest OS administrators to cause a denial of service (QEMU process crash) via vectors involving MPTSAS_CONFIG_PACK.
The bug was discovered 12/09/2016. The weakness was released 12/10/2016 by Prasad J Pandit (Website). The advisory is available at git.qemu.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-7157 since 09/06/2016. Local access is required to approach this attack. A single authentication is necessary for exploitation.
