curl and libcurl before 7.50.1 do not prevent TLS session resumption when the client certificate has changed, which allows remote attackers to bypass intended restrictions by resuming a session.
The weakness was presented 12/13/2016 as HT207423 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-5419. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Multiple issues existed in curl. These issues were addressed by updating to curl version 7.51.0.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 93862 (SUSE SLES11 Security Update : curl (SUSE-SU-2016:2449-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 350869 (Amazon Linux Security Advisory for curl: ALAS-2016-730).
Upgrading to version 10.12.2 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
