A vulnerability was found in Serendipity up to 2.0.5 (Content Management System). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function include of the file include/functions_installer.inc.php. The manipulation of the argument dbType with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. include/functions_installer.inc.php in Serendipity through 2.0.5 is vulnerable to File Inclusion and a possible Code Execution attack during a first-time installation because it fails to sanitize the dbType POST parameter before adding it to an include() call in the bundled-libs/serendipity_generateFTPChecksums.php file.
The bug was discovered 12/20/2016. The weakness was presented 12/30/2016 (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses and running in the context r. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 11756 (Serendipity Multiple File Include and Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerabilities).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 4 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
