Affected by this issue is the function File_Upload_Upgrader of the file wp-admin/includes/class-file-upload-upgrader.php of the component Upgrade Package Uploader. The manipulation of the argument urlholder with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in the File_Upload_Upgrader class in wp-admin/includes/class-file-upload-upgrader.php in the upgrade package uploader in WordPress before 4.6.1 allows remote authenticated users to access arbitrary files via a crafted urlholder parameter.
