A vulnerability was found in MatrixSSL up to 3.8.5. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function x509FreeExtensions of the component X.509 Certificate Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-416. The x509FreeExtensions function in MatrixSSL before 3.8.6 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (free of unallocated memory) via a crafted X.509 certificate.

The bug was discovered 10/11/2016. The weakness was presented 01/05/2017 by Craig Young with Tripwire (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-6892 since 08/19/2016. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
