Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in CHICKEN Scheme 4.11. This vulnerability affects the function process-execute/process-spawn. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
The "process-execute" and "process-spawn" procedures did not free memory correctly when the execve() call failed, resulting in a memory leak. This could be abused by an attacker to cause resource exhaustion or a denial of service. This affects all releases of CHICKEN up to and including 4.11 (it will be fixed in 4.12 and 5.0, which are not yet released).
The bug was discovered 01/10/2017. The weakness was disclosed 01/10/2017 by Peter Bex (Website). The advisory is available at lists.nongnu.org.
