Zend/zend_exceptions.c in PHP, possibly 5.x before 5.6.28 and 7.x before 7.0.13, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (infinite loop) via a crafted Exception object in serialized data, a related issue to CVE-2015-8876.
The bug was discovered 12/27/2016. The weakness was shared 01/11/2017 with CheckPoint (Website). The advisory is shared at blog.checkpoint.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2016-7478 since 09/09/2016. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Upgrading to version 5.6.28 or 7.0.13 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
