This issue affects the function MT6573FDVT_SetRegHW of the file camera_fdvt.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. The MT6573FDVT_SetRegHW function in camera_fdvt.c in the MediaTek driver for Linux allows local users to gain privileges via a crafted application that makes an MT6573FDVTIOC_T_SET_FDCONF_CMD IOCTL call.
The bug was discovered 07/30/2016. The weakness was presented 01/12/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared at packetstormsecurity.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-6492 since 07/28/2016. An attack has to be approached locally. Required for exploitation is a simple authentication.
