Details
A vulnerability was found in GnuTLS up to 3.3.25/3.5.7 (Network Encryption Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component OpenPGP Certificate Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Multiple heap-based buffer overflows in the read_attribute function in GnuTLS before 3.3.26 and 3.5.x before 3.5.8 allow remote attackers to have unspecified impact via a crafted OpenPGP certificate.
The bug was discovered 01/11/2017. The weakness was shared 01/11/2017 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at gnutls.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-5337 since 01/10/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
