This issue affects some unknown processing of the file core/loadDisplayType.do. The manipulation of the argument instanceId as part of a POST Request leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability (Reflected). Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-79. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator 4.6.6 and earlier, and the ePO Extension for the McAfee Agent (MA) 4.5 through 4.6, allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) instanceId parameter core/loadDisplayType.do; (2) instanceId or (3) monitorUrl parameter to console/createDashboardContainer.do; uid parameter to (4) ComputerMgmt/sysDetPanelBoolPie.do or (5) ComputerMgmt/sysDetPanelSummary.do; (6) uid, (7) orion.user.security.token, or (8) ajaxMode parameter to ComputerMgmt/sysDetPanelQry.do; or (9) uid, (10) orion.user.security.token, or (11) ajaxMode parameter to ComputerMgmt/sysDetPanelSummary.do.

The bug was discovered 06/08/2013. The weakness was presented 07/12/2013 by Nuri Fattah with NATO Computer Incident Response Capability as KB78824 as confirmed knowledge base article (Website). The advisory is shared at kc.mcafee.com. The public release happened without involvement of McAfee. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-4883 since 07/21/2013. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. Required for exploitation is a simple authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.

A public exploit has been developed by Nuri Fattah and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
