Details
A vulnerability was found in iSelect 1.4. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
iSelect 1.4.0-2+b1 contains a local buffer overflow vulnerability that allows local attackers to execute arbitrary code by supplying an oversized value to the -k/--key parameter. Attackers can craft a malicious argument containing a NOP sled, shellcode, and return address to overflow a 1024-byte stack buffer and gain code execution with user privileges.
The weakness was disclosed 01/16/2017 by Juan Sacco as EDB-ID 41076 as not defined exploit (Exploit-DB). The advisory is available at exploit-db.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-20048. Local access is required to approach this attack. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
A public exploit has been developed by Juan Sacco and been published immediately after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
