Multiple memory leaks in t1_lib.c in OpenSSL before 1.0.1u, 1.0.2 before 1.0.2i, and 1.1.0 before 1.1.0a allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) via large OCSP Status Request extensions.
The bug was discovered 09/22/2016. The weakness was disclosed 01/19/2017 by Shi Lei with Qihoo 360 as Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - January 2017 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at oracle.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-6304 since 07/26/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.

The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 316384 (Cisco Unity Express OpenSSL Multiple Vulnerabilities (cisco-sa-20160927-openssl)).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
