A flaw in systemd v228 in /src/basic/fs-util.c caused world writable suid files to be created when using the systemd timers features, allowing local attackers to escalate their privileges to root. This is fixed in v229.

The bug was discovered 01/25/2017. The weakness was shared 01/23/2017 by Sebastian Krahmer (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-10156 since 01/22/2017. An attack has to be approached locally. The successful exploitation needs a simple authentication.
