A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in gstreamer Application up to 1.10.1 (Multimedia Processing Software). Affected is the function flx_decode_delta_fli of the file gst/flx/gstflxdec.c. The manipulation of the argument start_line with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Heap-based buffer overflow in the flx_decode_delta_fli function in gst/flx/gstflxdec.c in the FLIC decoder in GStreamer before 1.10.2 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (application crash) via the start_line parameter.
The bug was discovered 12/21/2016. The weakness was presented 01/27/2017 by Chris Evans (Website). The advisory is available at rhn.redhat.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-9634 since 11/23/2016. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely.
