A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in MyBB and MyBB Merge System up to 1.8.6 (Content Management System). This issue affects some unknown processing of the component Moderation Tool. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. SQL injection vulnerability in the moderation tool in MyBB (aka MyBulletinBoard) before 1.8.7 and MyBB Merge System before 1.8.7 might allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via unspecified vectors.
The bug was discovered 01/31/2017. The weakness was disclosed 01/31/2017 by Tim Coen (Paul) (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at openwall.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-9402 since 11/17/2016. The attack may be initiated remotely. Required for exploitation is a simple authentication. Upgrading to version 1.8.7 eliminates this vulnerability.
