A vulnerability has been found in MailStore Server up to 10.0.1 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the file derefer. The manipulation of the argument url with an unknown input leads to a redirect vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-601. A web application accepts a user-controlled input that specifies a link to an external site, and uses that link in a Redirect. This simplifies phishing attacks. As an impact it is known to affect integrity.

The weakness was released 01/31/2017 by Tobias Glemser as secuvera-SA-2017-02: Reflected XSS and Open Redirect in MailStore Server as confirmed mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is available at seclists.org. The attack can be initiated remotely. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1204.001 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 9 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.

Upgrading to version 10.0.2 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
