The SVG Salamander (aka svgSalamander) library, when used in a web application, allows remote attackers to conduct server-side request forgery (SSRF) attacks via an xlink:href attribute in an SVG file.

The bug was discovered 03/16/2017. The weakness was shared 02/05/2017 by Luc Lynx as [SECURITY] [DSA 3781-1] svgsalamander security update as confirmed mailinglist post (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at seclists.org. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-5617 since 01/29/2017. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
