A vulnerability has been found in WSO2 Identity Server 5.1.0 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the file entitlement/eval-policy-submit.jsp of the component XACML Flow. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross-site request forgery vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-352. The web application does not, or can not, sufficiently verify whether a well-formed, valid, consistent request was intentionally provided by the user who submitted the request. Cross-site request forgery (CSRF) vulnerability in the XACML flow feature in WSO2 Identity Server 5.1.0 allows remote attackers to hijack the authentication of privileged users for requests that process XACML requests via an entitlement/eval-policy-submit.jsp request.
The bug was discovered 08/13/2016. The weakness was disclosed 02/17/2017 by John Page (hyp3rlinx) as confirmed posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-4311 since 04/27/2016. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details and also a public exploit are known.
A public exploit has been developed by hyp3rlinx and been published even before and not after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 187 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:entitlement/eval-policy-submit.jsp it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
