Google Chrome prior to 56.0.2924.76 for Linux, Windows and Mac, and 56.0.2924.87 for Android, failed to require a user gesture for powerful download operations, which allowed a remote attacker who convinced a user to install a malicious extension to execute arbitrary code via a crafted HTML page.
The bug was discovered 01/25/2017. The weakness was released 02/17/2017 by Armin Razmdjou (Paul) with Tresorit (Website). The advisory is shared for download at chromereleases.googleblog.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-5020 since 01/02/2017. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
