A vulnerability was found in Simplessus 3.7.7. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the component Cookie Handler. The manipulation of the argument UWA_SID with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability (Time). The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The bug was discovered 01/13/2017. The weakness was disclosed 02/16/2017 by Dr. Adrian Vollmer with SYSS as [SYSS-2017-001] Simplessus Files: SQL Injection as not defined mailinglist post (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at seclists.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-20104. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1505.
A public exploit has been developed by Dr. Adrian Vollmer in HTTP POST Request and been published immediately after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at seclists.org. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 34 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. Upgrading to version 3.8.3 eliminates this vulnerability.
