Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Linux Kernel up to 4.9.12 (Operating System). This affects the function do_shmat of the file ipc/shm.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-264. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
The do_shmat function in ipc/shm.c in the Linux kernel through 4.9.12 does not restrict the address calculated by a certain rounding operation, which allows local users to map page zero, and consequently bypass a protection mechanism that exists for the mmap system call, by making crafted shmget and shmat system calls in a privileged context.
The bug was discovered 02/28/2017. The weakness was released 02/24/2017 as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is shared at github.com.
