A vulnerability classified as critical was found in FFmpeg up to 1.2 (Multimedia Processing Software). This vulnerability affects the function read_apic of the file libavformat/id3v2.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, and availability.
The weakness was published 03/29/2013 by Mateusz Jurczyk and Gynvael Coldwind with Google Security Team as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is available at git.videolan.org. The public release has been coordinated with the vendor. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
