A vulnerability was found in Netgear DGN2200 up to 10.0.0.50 (Wireless LAN Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the file dnslookup.cgi. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-264. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. dnslookup.cgi on NETGEAR DGN2200 devices with firmware through 10.0.0.50 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary OS commands via shell metacharacters in the host_name field of an HTTP POST request, a different vulnerability than CVE-2017-6077.
The bug was discovered 02/19/2017. The weakness was disclosed 03/06/2017 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-6334 since 02/26/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. A public exploit has been developed in Python. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as attacked. The impacted product is end-of-life and should be disconnected if still in use.There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product. Attack attempts may be identified with Snort ID 41748.
