The read_image_tga function in gd_tga.c in the GD Graphics Library (aka libgd) before 2.2.4 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read) via a crafted TGA file, related to the decompression buffer.
The bug was discovered 03/15/2017. The weakness was released 03/15/2017 by Ibrahim el-sayed (GitHub Repository). The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-6906 since 08/22/2016. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
