A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Apple macOS Server up to 5.2 (Operating System). This issue affects an unknown function of the component Web Server. The Apache HTTP Server 1.x and 2.x allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (daemon outage) via partial HTTP requests, as demonstrated by Slowloris, related to the lack of the mod_reqtimeout module in versions before 2.2.15.
The bug was discovered 06/17/2009. The weakness was presented 03/27/2017 as HT207604 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-6750 since 12/27/2011. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. This issue was addressed by adding mod_reqtimeout.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 923 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 75789 (openSUSE Security Update : apache2-201202 (openSUSE-SU-2012:0314-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 371300 (F5 BIG-IP ASM, LTM and APM Slowloris Attack Denial Of Service Vulnerability (K12636)).
Upgrading to version 5.3 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
