Nextcloud Server before 9.0.52 & ownCloud Server before 9.0.4 are vulnerable to a content-spoofing attack in the files app. The location bar in the files app was not verifying the passed parameters. An attacker could craft an invalid link to a fake directory structure and use this to display an attacker-controlled error message to the user.
The bug was discovered 10/10/2016. The weakness was disclosed 03/28/2017 (GitHub Repository). The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-9460 since 11/19/2016. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.
