The Gentoo Nullmailer package before 1.11-r2 uses world-readable permissions for /etc/nullmailer/remotes, which allows local users to obtain SMTP authentication credentials by reading the file.
The weakness was published 08/09/2013 by Agostino Sarubbo as nullmailer world readable /etc/nullmailer/remotes as confirmed mailinglist post (oss-sec). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-4223 since 06/12/2013. An attack has to be approached locally. Required for exploitation is a single authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
