A vulnerability has been found in Microsoft Internet Explorer up to 6 (Web Browser) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component HTTP Reply Handler. The execCommand method in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 SP2 allows remote attackers to bypass the "File Download - Security Warning" dialog and save arbitrary files with arbitrary extensions via the SaveAs command.
The bug was discovered 01/01/2001. The weakness was shared 11/17/2004 by cyber flash as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2004-1331 since 01/06/2005. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
