A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in elfutils 0.168. Affected by this vulnerability is the function check_group of the file elflint.c of the component ELF File Handler. The check_group function in elflint.c in elfutils 0.168 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (heap-based buffer over-read and application crash) via a crafted ELF file.
The bug was discovered 04/03/2017. The weakness was shared 04/09/2017 by Agostino Sarubbo with Gentoo (Website). The advisory is shared at blogs.gentoo.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2017-7610 since 04/09/2017. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
