Details
A vulnerability has been found in Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 6.1.0 (Application Server Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the component Remote-Naming Connection Cache Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a config vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-16. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP) 6.1.0 does not properly cache EJB invocations by remote-naming, which allows remote attackers to hijack sessions by using a remoting client.
The weakness was presented 08/12/2013 by Wolf-Dieter Fink with Red Hat GSS Team as RHSA-2013:1151-1 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at rhn.redhat.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-4128 since 06/12/2013. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592.004 by the MITRE ATT&CK project. The advisory points out:
After a user has successfully logged in, a remote attacker could use a remoting client to log in as that user without knowing their password, allowing them to access data and perform actions with the privileges of that user.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 69315 (RHEL 5 / 6 : JBoss EAP (RHSA-2013:1151)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Red Hat Local Security Checks.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. The advisory contains the following remark:
Before applying this update, back up your existing Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform installation and deployed applications.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (86386), Tenable (69315), SecurityFocus (BID 61739†), OSVDB (96217†) and Secunia (SA54508†).
