Microsoft Excel Services on Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 SP1 and SP2, Microsoft Excel Web Apps 2010 SP2, Microsoft Office Web Apps 2010 SP2, Microsoft Office Web Apps Server 2013 SP1 and Office Online Server allows remote attackers to perform cross-site scripting and run script with local user privileges via a crafted request, aka "Microsoft Office XSS Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability."
The bug was discovered 04/11/2017. The weakness was disclosed 04/11/2017 as not defined knowledge base article (Website). The advisory is shared at portal.msrc.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2017-0195 since 09/09/2016. The attack can be launched remotely. A single authentication is necessary for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 99314 (Security Update for Microsoft Office Products (April 2017) (Petya)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110297 (Microsoft Office and Microsoft Office Services and Web Apps Security Update April 2017).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
