The smb_request_state function in cURL and libcurl 7.40.0 through 7.42.1 allows remote SMB servers to obtain sensitive information from memory or cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read and crash) via crafted length and offset values.
The bug was discovered 06/17/2015. The weakness was published 04/19/2017 by Daniel Stenberg as Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - April 2017 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at oracle.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-3237 since 04/10/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
