A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Google Chrome (Web Browser). Affected is the function ConvolverNode::tailTime
of the file modules/webaudio/ConvolverNode.cpp. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a race condition vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Multiple race conditions in the Web Audio implementation in Blink, as used in Google Chrome before 30.0.1599.66, allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly have unspecified other impact via vectors related to threading in core/html/HTMLMediaElement.cpp, core/platform/audio/AudioDSPKernelProcessor.cpp, core/platform/audio/HRTFElevation.cpp, and modules/webaudio/ConvolverNode.cpp.
The weakness was shared 09/04/2013 by Wander Groeneveld (Garage4Hackers) with Georgia Tech Information Security Center as confirmed changelog entry (Website). The advisory is shared for download at chromiumcodereview.appspot.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-2906 since 04/11/2013. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
