Google Go up to 1.7.5/1.8.1 on AMD64 ScalarMult Key cryptographic issues

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in Google Go up to 1.7.5/1.8.1 on AMD64 (Programming Language Software). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the component ScalarMult. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issues vulnerability (Key). The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-310. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

A bug in the standard library ScalarMult implementation of curve P-256 for amd64 architectures in Go before 1.7.6 and 1.8.x before 1.8.2 causes incorrect results to be generated for specific input points. An adaptive attack can be mounted to progressively extract the scalar input to ScalarMult by submitting crafted points and observing failures to the derive correct output. This leads to a full key recovery attack against static ECDH, as used in popular JWT libraries.

The bug was discovered 06/16/2017. The weakness was disclosed 07/06/2017 (Website). The advisory is available at groups.google.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-8932 since 05/15/2017. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1600 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 100855 (Fedora 25 : golang (2017-278f46fcd6)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 256264 (CentOS Security Update for golang (CESA-2017:1859)).

Upgrading to version 1.7.6 or 1.8.2 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (100855). The entry VDB-109589 is pretty similar.
