WebKit, as used in Apple iTunes before 11.0.3, allows man-in-the-middle attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) via vectors related to iTunes Store browsing, a different vulnerability than other WebKit CVEs listed in APPLE-SA-2013-05-16-1.

The weakness was disclosed 09/18/2013 by Martin Barbella with Google Chrome Security Team as APPLE-SA-2013-09-18-2 iOS 7 as confirmed mailinglist post (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at prod.lists.apple.com. The mailinglist post contains:

Multiple memory corruption issues existed in WebKit. These issues were addressed through improved memory handling.
The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-1004 since 01/10/2013. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/25/2021). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 70257 (Apple TV < 6.0 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Misc.. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 121230 (Apple Safari 6.0.5 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2013-06-04-2)).

Upgrading to version iOS 7.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
