Directory traversal vulnerability in the BusyBox implementation of tar before 1.22.0 v5 allows remote attackers to point to files outside the current working directory via a symlink.
The bug was discovered 10/21/2015. The weakness was disclosed 08/07/2017 by Matt (oss-sec). The advisory is available at openwall.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2011-5325 since 10/21/2015. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1006 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
