lighttpd up to 1.4.33 ssl.cipher-lister cryptographic issues

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issues vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-310. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, and integrity. The summary by CVE is:

lighttpd before 1.4.34, when SNI is enabled, configures weak SSL ciphers, which makes it easier for remote attackers to hijack sessions by inserting packets into the client-server data stream or obtain sensitive information by sniffing the network.

The bug was discovered 11/01/2013. The weakness was disclosed 11/01/2013 by Nathan Bishop as Using possibly vulnerable cipher suites with SNI as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at download.lighttpd.net. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the project team. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2013-4508 since 06/12/2013. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details and a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1600 for this issue.

After immediately, there has been an exploit disclosed. The exploit is shared for download at seclists.org. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 72651 (Fedora 20 : lighttpd-1.4.34-3.fc20 (2014-2495)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 350446 (Amazon Linux Security Advisory for lighttpd: ALAS-2014-299).

Upgrading to version 1.4.34 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at redmine.lighttpd.net.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (72651). Further details are available at seclists.org. The entries 65508 and 65507 are pretty similar.
