Apache OFBiz 16.11.01/16.11.02/16.11.03 BIRT Plugin injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Apache OFBiz 16.11.01/16.11.02/16.11.03. Affected is some unknown functionality of the component BIRT Plugin. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-74. The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on integrity. CVE summarizes:

The BIRT plugin in Apache OFBiz 16.11.01 to 16.11.03 does not escape user input property passed. This allows for code injection by passing that code through the URL. For example by appending this code "__format=%27;alert(%27xss%27)" to the URL an alert window would execute.

The weakness was published 01/04/2018 (Website). The advisory is available at s.apache.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-15714 since 10/21/2017. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 01/27/2018). This vulnerability is assigned to T1055 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

A public exploit has been developed in URL/Javascript. It is declared as proof-of-concept.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
