crypto/pcrypt.c in the Linux kernel before 4.14.13 mishandles freeing instances, allowing a local user able to access the AF_ALG-based AEAD interface (CONFIG_CRYPTO_USER_API_AEAD) and pcrypt (CONFIG_CRYPTO_PCRYPT) to cause a denial of service (kfree of an incorrect pointer) or possibly have unspecified other impact by executing a crafted sequence of system calls.

The bug was discovered 12/22/2017. The weakness was shared 01/24/2018 as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-18075 since 01/24/2018. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 4.14.13 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org.
