GNOME librsvg version before commit c6ddf2ed4d768fd88adbea2b63f575cd523022ea contains a Improper input validation vulnerability in rsvg-io.c that can result in the victim's Windows username and NTLM password hash being leaked to remote attackers through SMB. This attack appear to be exploitable via The victim must process a specially crafted SVG file containing an UNC path on Windows.

The bug was discovered 12/05/2017. The weakness was released 02/09/2018 (GitHub Repository). The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-1000041 since 02/05/2018. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1552 for this issue.
