The Wave_read._read_fmt_chunk function in Lib/wave.py in Python through 3.6.4 does not ensure a nonzero channel value, which allows attackers to cause a denial of service (divide-by-zero error and application crash) via a crafted wav format audio file.
The weakness was presented 03/01/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared at bugs.python.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2017-18207 since 02/28/2018. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
