Huawei DP300/RP200/TE30/TE40/TE50/TE60 SCCP Malformed Packet memory corruption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in Huawei DP300, RP200, TE30, TE40, TE50 and TE60 (Unified Communication Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown part of the component SCCP Handler. The manipulation as part of a Malformed Packet leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

SCCP (Signalling Connection Control Part) module in Huawei DP300 V500R002C00, RP200 V500R002C00, V600R006C00, TE30 V100R001C10, V500R002C00, V600R006C00, TE40 V500R002C00, V600R006C00, TE50 V500R002C00, V600R006C00, TE60 V100R001C10, V500R002C00, V600R006C00 has a buffer overflow vulnerability. An attacker has to find a way to send malformed packets to the affected products repeatedly. Due to insufficient input validation, successful exploit may cause some service abnormal.

The bug was discovered 02/28/2018. The weakness was shared 03/09/2018 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at huawei.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-17282 since 12/04/2017. The attack needs to be done within the local network. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 02/21/2023).

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 9 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
