A vulnerability was found in Mozilla Firefox 1.0 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. This issue affects some unknown processing of the component IDN International Domain Name Handler. The International Domain Name (IDN) support in Firefox 1.0, Camino .8.5, and Mozilla before 1.7.6 allows remote attackers to spoof domain names using punycode encoded domain names that are decoded in URLs and SSL certificates in a way that uses homograph characters from other character sets, which facilitates phishing attacks.
The bug was discovered 02/07/2005. The weakness was published 02/06/2005 by Eric Johanson (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at shmoo.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-0233 since 02/07/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but an exploit is available.
