The header::add_INFO_descriptor function in header.cpp in VCFtools 0.1.15 allows remote attackers to cause information disclosure (heap-based buffer over-read) via a crafted vcf file.
The bug was discovered 05/16/2018. The weakness was published 05/17/2018 as confirmed mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is available at seclists.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2018-11099 since 05/14/2018. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
