A vulnerability was found in strongSwan up to 5.6.2 (Network Encryption Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown processing of the file stroke_socket.c. In stroke_socket.c in strongSwan before 5.6.3, a missing packet length check could allow a buffer underflow, which may lead to resource exhaustion and denial of service while reading from the socket.
The bug was discovered 05/23/2018. The weakness was released 05/31/2018 by Kevin Backhouse as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-5388 since 01/12/2018. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely.
