An exploitable use-after-free vulnerability exists in the JavaScript engine of Foxit Software Foxit PDF Reader version 9.0.1.1049. A specially crafted PDF document can trigger a previously freed object in memory to be reused resulting in arbitrary code execution. An attacker needs to trick the user to open the malicious file to trigger this vulnerability. If the browser plugin extension is enabled, visiting a malicious site can also trigger the vulnerability.

The bug was discovered 04/19/2018. The weakness was shared 06/04/2018 by Aleksandar Nikolic with Cisco Talos (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2018-3853 since 01/02/2018. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
