A vulnerability has been found in SensioLabs Symfony up to 2.7.47/2.8.40/3.3.16/3.4.10/4.0.10 (Programming Tool Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component Security Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a redirect vulnerability. The security handlers in the Security component in Symfony in 2.7.x before 2.7.48, 2.8.x before 2.8.41, 3.3.x before 3.3.17, 3.4.x before 3.4.11, and 4.0.x before 4.0.11 have an Open redirect vulnerability when security.http_utils is inlined by a container. NOTE: this issue exists because of an incomplete fix for CVE-2017-16652.

The bug was discovered 05/25/2018. The weakness was released 06/13/2018 (Website). The advisory is available at lists.fedoraproject.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-11408 since 05/24/2018. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1204.001 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 12 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. Upgrading to version 2.7.48, 2.8.41, 3.3.17, 3.4.11 or 4.0.11 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
